Chillin' for Charity

Chillin’ for Charity is an annual fundraiser hosted by University of Alberta business students in support of the United Way.  The event is organized by the Alberta JDC West business team as part of a nation-wide academic competition and is widely supported across campus, with participants from all faculties.
The 2009 Chillin’ for Charity Polar Bear Swim will take place on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 12:00pm in the Main Quad on University Campus. The event boasts a large pool filled with icy water, lots of media, dozens of fun-loving participants in wacky costumes, door prizes, penguins and more! There will also be a fenced off standing area and bleachers for the audience, and we hope to see as many people attend as possible!

Over the past 3 years, hundreds of participants, including the School of Business Dean Michael Percy, have braved the weather in support of the United Way. They have taken the plunge into the icy waters and have helped Alberta JDC West raise over $60,000!.

As a result of the overwhelming community support received for the 2007 Chillin’ for Charity Polar Bear Swim, Alberta JDC West was nominated for the United Way Event of the Year, the United Way Spirit Award and the National Philanthropy Award in recognition of the spirit and success of the event. As business students and members of the Alberta JDC West team, organizers recognize the importance of involvement and giving back to the community and are honored to be given the opportunity to organize this event annually. Current organizers look to build upon the success of the 2007 Chillin’ for Charity and hope to increase both funds raised and participants involved, from all areas of the University.
