Chillin’ for Charity is an annual fundraiser hosted by University of Alberta business students in support of the United Way.  The event is organized by the Alberta JDC West business team as part of a nation-wide academic competition and is widely supported across campus, with participants from all faculties. 

Last year, over 85 participants, including the School of Business Dean Michael Percy braved the weather in support of the United Way and took the plunge into the icy waters, helping Alberta JDC West raise over $50,000! Current organizers look to build upon the success of the 2007 Chillin’ for Charity and hope to increase both funds raised and participants involved, from all areas of the University.

As a result of the overwhelming community support received for the 2007 Chillin’ for Charity Polar Bear Swim, Alberta JDC West was nominated for the United Way Event of the Year, the United Way Spirit Award and the National Philanthropy Award in recognition of the spirit  and success of the event. As business students and members of the Alberta JDC West team, organizers recognize the importance of involvement and giving back to the community and are honored to be given the opportunity to organize this event annually.
