Chillin for Charity is an annual fundraiser hosted by University of Alberta business students in support of the United Way. The event is organized by the Alberta JDC West business team as part of a nation-wide academic competition and is widely supported across campus, with participants from all faculties. The 2012 Chillin for Charity Polar Bear Swim will take place in November 14th, 2012 in the Main Quad on the University Campus. The event boasts a large pool filled with icy water, hot tubs, media, dozens of fun-loving participants in wacky costumes, prizes, music and more! The public is welcome to watch and cheer on all of the brave participants and courageous special guests.
Over the past six years, hundreds of participants, including the former School of Business Dean, Michael Percy, have braved the weather in support of the United Way. They have taken the plunge into the icy waters and have helped Alberta JDC West raise over $80,000! As a result of the overwhelming community support received for the 2007 Chillin for Charity Polar Bear Swim, Alberta JDC West was nominated for the United Way Event of the Year, the United Way Spirit Award and the National Philanthropy Award in recognition of the spirit and success of the event. As business students and members of the Alberta JDC West team, organizers recognize the importance of involvement and giving back to the community and are honored to be given the opportunity to organize this event annually. This year we are making the event bigger and better, looking for more participants to jump and more funds raised. We welcome any student groups across campus, fraternities, sororities, or any groups not directly affiliated with the university to raise money and jump.
